Plant Care & Maintenance Manual

What kind of plant is it?

1. Certain plants like to dry out and certain plants want to stay damp; it is their physiological nature. A general rule would be: plants with thin leaves require more water than plants with thick leaves. plump fat leaves are able to store water longer than thin flat leaves. So if you have a sansiviera (some call it a Mother in Law’s tongue because of its sharp pointed foliage) that has long thick leaves and you have a spathyphylum (peace lily) with its large thin leaves, there is absolutely no way that these two plants can be on the same watering schedule.
2.There are also entire species of plants that have specific watering requirements. Succulents ( Pepperomia, Hoya, Jade, Crown of Thorns), Cactus, and all varieties of Dracaenas like their soil to dry out. Plants that are flowering and those that are constantly getting new leaves (Ficus, Coleus, Wandering Jew) need more water than slow growing plants. Next Section - Where are you putting the plant?>>
